Come on, you knew it was coming.

I've had 3 or so experiences with it, and I don't like it. It's way more unreliable than one ref. With an assigned ref, they pay more attention because they know that they have two battlers relying on them to get their match reffed. With open reffing, you get an occasional ref to see your thread and say either "Hey, they need I a ref. I'll do it." or "I don't feel like it. Someone else will do it.", which I don;t really like. And with open reffing, you sometimes get an "undesired" ref, and are disappointed with the results.

This reminds me, I still have FB and yours to ref. I'll do it tomorrow when I'm more awake.

I personally like it, as it allows anyone to ref.

It would work ideally in a system that wasn't so dead, and where almost every participant is approved as a ref. We just need more people in general, a stronger desire for points, and a higher ratio of approved refs.
But yesh, with our current settings, I suppose it is doomed to fail.

Maybe.

Still, if there were more refs, then it might work.

So everyone is clear on the fact that the 'poll' is a red herring, and I don't give a damn about what the 'voting' says?

No, no, the discussion is way more important to the decision making process.

I think the main problem isn't that there aren't enough refs, its that GHPF is made of lazy average humans who won't do a task unless they are obligated by their signed name to do so.

‘Reffing’ is short for ‘refereeing’. Anime Style Battling needs a referee, there used to be a moderator who volunteered/was assigned to referee. This thread was for the discussion of the possibility of anyone being allowed to referee. As it turns out, we have no refs now.

That's not quite true, WP. You didn't have to be a moderator to be a ref, you just had to have been approved as a ref by taking the test. And I was approved, and I sort of still exist. But ASB doesn't, so there.

Since I had never seen anyone else but a moderator as a ref, I had no way of knowing. There had been a couple of challenges made in the past few months, one just a few weeks ago by Espeon and someone else, requesting a ref. They lost interest, I think, when no one responded. I suppose I should have asked about how to referee then.

Actually, there is open reffing according to the Office of Reffing. There are approved refs and unapproved refs. The refs that are approved get points and perks.
